"Takes a Licking & Keeps on Ticking!"

Yes, after what seems like ages, I am back at work (still on a part-time basis) after recovering from open heart surgery.

What was truly a life experience for me, my family and friends, is now over and done with. However it did leave me with a clearer understanding of how things go on even without you. The world didn't stop revolving just because I got off for a while.

Larry, Lois, Heather and Al kept things running smoothly at Aldgate and I think everyone enjoyed their extra responsibilities in my absence. So much so, that upon my recent return to the office I have decided to but-out and let them continue to do their excellent work.

During my down time I wrote a book about my experience which would be of interest to anyone that might be about to or has a loved one that is about to undergo heart surgery. Just getting my thoughts and fears down on paper was great therapy, not to mention the great response I've had from those that have read it. I also spent many hours upgrading our Aldgate web sites. (See the "We're Wired" article below) While I ease back into the swing of things at the office, I will spend my new found energy on development projects, promotion and other management issues.

Aldgate is anticipating a period of slow continued growth. With our industrial space at 99% occupancy we are looking at possible industrial mall acquisitions. Our office space has some vacancies that we'd like to fill and we find that just in the last few weeks there has been more activity in office expansions and relocations.

We have two development sites on the drawing board for either retail "pad" type or industrial uses. For more information, please call me.

Now that the weather is better, Larry is busy concentrating his energy on implementing the many ongoing planned annual improvements at all of our locations.

All in all, it's great to be back in the land of the living and working again. I want to especially thank all of our fine tenants, real estate agents, and other business friends who offered their kind support and good wishes to me. It was truly unexpected and certainly boosted my spirits.

We're Wired...

With the increasing success of the Aldgate web site, ( we have had over 4,000 hits in under a year!), we are continually upgrading the facility to provide information and services to our tenants and those in the real estate community.

Our simple and easy to use site www.aldgategroup.com was created entirely in-house and is jam packed with information like who we are at Aldgate, our property listings, newsletters and tenant comments. It contains useful data for prospective tenants and brokers looking for space and for existing tenants as well. We have received many compliments from the research departments at major Realtors such as Royal LePage and CB Richard Ellis for providing such thorough and up to date property information. We just have to get the agents used to dialing in to our site when they need current info. (Hey guys, welcome to the 90's!)

We have recently added more photos of the properties and now you can just click on the square footage or suite number of a particular listing to see the floor plan of the space. You can easily print out a copy of the plan for immediate and easy reference.

We are sending out surveys to all of our tenants to see just how many have internet access. If the numbers warrant it we would like to add another user-friendly section in our web-site where tenants and their employees will be able to communicate messages via e-mail about maintenance issues outside of normal business hours, with the messages directed at the appropriate personnel, including automatic copies to management.

It's Spring!

It's the moment Larry's been waiting for after a long cold winter of planning and budgeting for our annual building improvement program.

In 1998, some of the work that we completed at the Aldgate Corporate Centre included: new lobby carpet; interlock sidewalk repairs and new landscaping planters and benches; garage repairs; asphalt; painting; additional exterior lighting; automated photo-electric toilet and urinal flushers.

At industrial buildings we've begun a modernization program including upgrading the building facades with new aluminum siding, double glazed windows, asphalt repairs, insulated shipping doors, etc. This is a slow, budget dependant process, but eventually all of our buildings will have been improved.

For 1999 we will continue on the same path and have already commenced washroom renovations (1200 Markham), landscaping work, more exterior lighting and waste receptacles.

Basil's Deli at 2100 Ellesmere is now under new ownership. Check out Jim and Christine's excellent home cooking featuring fresh daily specials. You will be pleasantly surprised by the dramatic improvement in food quality and selection. Also the restaurant is now entirely non-smoking!



Pizza Nova has been with Aldgate for over 20 years. Starting with a small industrial unit on Progress Ave, they later located their head office and telephone room to 2100 Ellesmere. Recently moving to 2247 Midland Ave. they have now consolidated the office, phone rooms and manufacturing into one modern and high-tech 30,000 square foot facility. We thank the Primucci family for their long term loyalty to Aldgate properties and we wish them continued success.
